HIGGANUM, Conn. (WTNH) — Do you spend your summers on the water, are you a kayaker? Do you have a tough time figuring out where to store it?
Doug and Zinelle Mackro of Higganum are the founders of a portable kayak that nests into itself for easy storing and carrying. It comes apart in six pieces and goes together with a patented clamping system. It’s called Pakayak and it will be available to order this spring.
“I was tired of loading and unloading kayaks. I looked at them and I said you know these things can come apart and be like a stack of ice cream cones or Dixie cups and that’s really how it came about.”
That idea came about over 25 years ago.
“This is the Pakayak, right here, that’s a model, in real size it’s 3-feet tall once it’s nested, 3-and-a-half feet tall, 14 feet long, hard shell kayak, 14 feet long. I can put it into the trunk of my convertible, no more roof racks, no more wind drag, no more lifting.”
The Pakayak will sell for about $1,600, comes in four colors, and will be made in Pennsylvania. For more information on Pakayak, click here.
