NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Fly fishing in the great outdoors, something so many love, including Connecticut’s Sean Callinan, the fly fishing instructor at Yale University.
This Friday night, May 20, Callinan is bringing the International Fly Fishing Film Festival to Yale, which you can attend. Proceeds go to groups who take vets fishing to help clear their minds from what they may have seen on the battlefield.
“All the proceeds are going toward Take A Vet Fishing and Rivers Of Recovery, two excellent non-profits and all my Yale students will be the staff on board that night, kind of volunteering and throwing out raffle prizes.”
It’s been shown that a day of fishing can help ease Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
“The idea is to get veterans out of the clinical environment for a relaxing day of fishing and it turns out to be a doorway to developing friendships and to get vets to unwind and kind of forget about their cares for a day and develop friendships, get some good cooking and just have fun.”
Rivers of Recovery and Take A Vet Fishing of Branford will benefit from the festival. It’s this Friday night at the Whitney Humanities Center at Yale at 7:00 p.m. For tickets, click here.
