SOMERS, Conn. (WTNH) — There is a series of children’s books on the market, written by a Somers, Connecticut author, that are filled with hope and all good things to teach the lessons of life.

They champion the spirit that a child is free to be who they are and the name of the character in the book is Frieda B. They’re so good, they’ve recently won a National Best Picture Book Series award. There are four books so far and a fifth is in the works.

“A lot of what I do with children is use the books as an opportunity to help them understand they do have a unique story tucked inside them, and what is that story, how do you find that story and I walk them thru the process of, first of all, imagining what are you good at, then imagining what do I care about, and then I have them bring that together and hold it and I shake it up a little bit and then what I say is, ‘What you’re holding in your hands right now, nobody in all of time has ever held before and nobody every will again. This is the wiring to your own unique story and if you dream big about what’s in there, your story’s going to find you and it will take you to places you could never imagine,” said author Renata Bowers.

Bowers loves to speak at schools to empower children. You can contact her here.
