(WTNH) — For 30 years, the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven has served families who have sick children. The mission is to keep those families together while a child is being treated in the hospital, which in many of these cases, are life and death situations.
Currently, more than 15,000 families use the house every year.
We provide families who have children who are sick in the hospital and need care far away from home. We provide them with a home away from home. We try to take away all the problems that a family has, so they can focus on their child in the hospital. It’s basically free, we ask for a $15 donation, but more and more frankly the families come in with the shirt on their back, they come in in an emergency situation often with a premature birth baby or a child that needs a transplant and so they just arrive, said Stocky Clark, Executive Director at Ronald McDonald House Charities of CT.
A capitol campaign is underway right now to build a new Ronald McDonald House. It will be located right across the street from the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital.
There are many ways you can help them complete this 42-room home away from home for families. To donate or volunteer, visit their website.
